“leap year,baby!” opens tonight!

hello good people, today is the opening for Erinn Kathryns collection on tiny paintings. she’s made 141 teeny tiny mixed media paintings on wooden blocks. these small compositions are more then meets the eye, there is so much information packed in these tiny 1.5 x 2 inch blocks, i could easily see these works blown up 100 times there size. the subject matter is very stream of conscious , ranging from psychedelic abstracts , to stylized figures and portraits, to mushrooms and plants, landscapes to still life’s. Erinn allows the media to find what it needs to be, and then she clarifies them for the rest of us.

Erinn is also the first person i’ve met who was born on leap day. the reception is tonight from 7 to 10, we would love to see you all.

p.s. march is a group show all about ninja’s, work needs to be at the gallery by 6 pm on sunday february 26th.

this is the last week to see micki skularczyk’s installation “sundries serenade”. paying homage to the parts that remain after life has passed and the dishes are cleared, “sundries serenade” makes special these “miscellaneous items of little value”. our closing reception is this friday january 27th from 7 to 10 pm. please come by and help us celebrate micki’s work .

happy holidaze all you good people,
just wanted to let everyone know that this saturday will be the last day of “ferrous understructure”. i hope that you can make it by and check it out. we will be open our regular hours on sat from 12 to 7. sunday is a new year and i’ll be around picking up the scraps and resetting the gallery for Micki Skudarcyks’ installation called “sundries serenade”.
hope every one has an amazing and wonderful new year! (not just the beginning ,but the whole thing!)

happy holidays good people,
so i had some power issues with my laptop and could not get to the web site for the last couple weeks, but now the energy is flowing. i just put up some pics of our third anniversary show featuring welded steel sculptures by yours truly. i would love for you guys to check them out, and if you get a chance come on down to the gallery and take a closer look.
thank you for all the support for these first three years. let’s hope for many more.

happy thanksgiving everyone.
i hope all your turkey day plans are in order and if your traveling i hope that every one arrives safely and in good spirits. i just wanted to remind you that our group show, “what the undertaker saw” is entering it’s final weekend. at good:a gallery, we don’t judge, so feel free to stop by and check out the show in your fat-pants and feel free to bring the in laws. you know they love the art stuff.
also our third anniversary is happening next friday as yours truly is having a solo show of new welded steel sculptures called “ferrous understructure” for the month of december. more about this next week. i have lots ‘o work to do.

so we have gotten a great collection of 28 works for this months group show. the opening reception is his first friday, november 4th from 7 to 10 pm. i hope to see you then , if you can’t make the opening our normal weekend hours are saturdays, noon to 7 and sundays 1 to 6.

hello good people,
i just wanted to remind all of you that there is two weekends left of bijijoo’s “celebrity still life (with babies)”. it’s an awesome show withe great paintings and a buttload of babies.
the same day that b’s show is coming down is also the the last day for submissions for our november group show, “what the undertaker saw”. we have already received a few awesome submissions, feel free to drop yours off this weekend and next. the deadline to receive submissions is the 30th of october by 6 pm. if you can’t make our weekend hours please contact me and we’ll set up a good time for delivery.

bijijoo is coming!

for those of you who are not familiar with bijijoo’s work you’re in for a weird surprise! earlier this year he had a show of his oil paintings at powells bookstore downtown, called “presidential ham”. in celebration of presidents day he painted portraits of every u.s. president holding a ham. it was delicious and patriotic! for our “underwater” show he painted an oil painting of a clown in a bathtub.
for “celebrity still life (with babies)” bijijoo has taken celebrity to the point of object. decorating our everyday life like a book on a shelf or a plastic pony on a piano. in addition to his celebrity oil paintings, bijijoo will be sharing his large collection of baby dolls. he’s collected these bbies for many years and will be displayed hanging from the ceiling of the gallery.
the opening reception is a little different then in the past, yes it will be on friday, but do to the calendars line up it will take place on the 30th of september. same time as usual going from 7 to 10 pm. i heard there might be clowns there so be for warned. the show will be running thru the month of october, with our regular weekend hours; saturdays 12 to 7 and sundays 1 to 6.
this weekend is the last weekend for kalina torino’s awesome show of aquatic characters if you haven’t had a chance to see it, they are very adorable!
one last little thing to talk about. it’s this call to artist for our november show. the title and theme is “what the undertaker saw” we’ll need your work in the gallery by the 30th of october for it to be considered for the the show which opens on the 4th. so bust out your shovels and start digging!

our final group show in this “under” theme year is “What the Undertaker saw”. the opening reception is on the 4th of november from 7 to 10pm, the friday after halloween. the deadline for work to be considered is the last sunday of october the 30th. we need to have it at the gallery by the time we close at 6pm. so i can get my haunting on. if you have any questions please feel free to email me at scott@goodpdx.com. the next group show will be in march 2012.
if you haven’t had a chance to see kalina’s “subaqueous” show , it looks great and will be up for a few more weekends so come on by we’ve missed you.

our september show is kalina’s first solo show at good. if you’ve been to any of our group shows over the past three years you have probably spied kalina’s whimsical characters. the opening reception will be our usual first friday from 7 to 10. and our open hours our saturdays 12 to 7 and sundays from 1 to 6. you can see a sneak peak on our home page.

this august good is happy to present an installation by lauren lamotte. the opening reception is friday august fifth, from 7 to 10. lauren collaborated with jenstar who will be performing original music designed to go with lauren’s work. “what is essential is invisible” is about desire and need and the journey towards fulfillment. the opening will be the only opportunity to interact and get a close look at the installation. the rest of the month it will only be able to be enjoyed thru the windows.
a little heads up on our next group show, it will be in november and the dark theme is “what the undertaker saw” the deadline for work will be the 30th of october.
also if you are in need of an olmec head for your yard let me know, it’s been a good season for them.

july 1st is underpants day!

hello good believers!
tomorrow july first is the opening of our festive group show “underpants”. the reception will be from 7 to 10 and the show will be up all month. if you forget to bring underpants we are selling “good” unisex briefs. you can see then modeled on our home page gallery. hope to see all of you underpants fans this friday!
another thing to keep in mind is that the mississippi street fair is next saturday the 9th , it’s always a fun day and of course the gallery will be open for a visit.
